The world’s fifth largest insurance group entered the expatriate medical insurance market last week. The introduction of Aviva’s International Solutions “pick’n'mix” plan should pep up competition between insurers to the benefit of expats, brokers say.

Four months ago Bupa International, the market leader, announced the first substantial overhaul of its policies in 21 years when Bupa’s World Health Options moved away from policies in which the customer gets little choice, to a modular format.
